‘Art and Activism in Public Space’ are special issues of The Journal of Public Space. These issues are a collaboration between The Journal of Public Space (developed by City Space Architecture, Italy in partnership with UN-Habitat) and RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia (MAPS Master of Arts - Art in Public Space, School of Art and CAST Contemporary Art and Social Transformation research group).

These issues feature a diversity of practices and approaches to theoretical inquiry around the role of art and activism in public space. While art practice and activism are specific to location, each is also symptomatic of a broader understanding of the role of art and activism within public space. Collaborative and socially engaged approaches runs throughout the issues.

Based on the concept of facilitating small scale networking opportunities, The Journal of Public Space is launching an on-line, free access, self-organising Art and Activism in Public Space Register to facilitate greater networking opportunities between universities, institutions, non-profit associations and individuals.

The register and collaborations begin with:
City Space Architecture / Public Space Museum
RMIT University, Australia  /  MAPS Master of Arts - Art in Public Space
London Metropolitan University, United Kindom  /  The Centre for Creative Arts, Cultures and Engagement (CREATURE)
Fontys University of Applied Science, Netherlands  /  International Master Performing Public Space
