We are now indexed in Scopus!
Posted on 2026-03-13Message from our Founder and Editor in Chief Dr Luisa Bravo
I am delighted to announce that The Journal of Public Space has been accepted for indexing in Scopus, the world’s largest curated abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature.
This is a significant milestone in the growth of the journal and a recognition of the quality and relevance of the work we have been publishing since its foundation.
As Founder and Editor-in-Chief, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all those who have supported us over the years: the authors who chose our journal to disseminate their research, the reviewers who generously contributed their time and expertise, and the members of the editorial and scientific boards for their continuous guidance and commitment.
I would also like to extend a special word of thanks to UN-Habitat, which has been our key institutional partner since the launch of the very first issue at Habitat III, the United Nations conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, that took place in Quito in 2016; their trust, collaboration, and long-standing commitment to the journal’s mission have been essential in shaping The Journal of Public Space as a truly global and impactful platform.
I would also like to warmly thank our academic partners who have supported The Journal of Public Space over the years. In particular, I acknowledge the invaluable collaboration with Queensland University of Technology (Australia), KTH Royal Institute of Technology – Centre for the Future of Places (Sweden), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Hong Kong SAR), RMIT University – Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (Australia), and the University of the Sunshine Coast (Australia). Their trust, intellectual contribution and institutional backing have been crucial in consolidating the journal as an international platform for research and debate on public space.
As an Italian research project, we are also proud that The Journal of Public Space has been formally recognised in the national evaluation system. The National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes - the Italian governmental agency responsible for overseeing quality assurance, accreditation, and evaluation of universities and research centers to improve their performance and academic quality - has indexed the journal as a scientific journal and has classified it as a Class A journal in two disciplinary areas: “Urban Studies, Urbanism, Urban Planning and Urban Design”, and “Performing, musical, cinematic and media arts”. This recognition further confirms the scientific rigour and cultural relevance of our work, and strengthens our role within both the Italian and the international academic communities.
The Journal of Public Space is a diamond open access journal: all our contents are freely available to readers worldwide and we do not charge publication fees to authors, in line with our commitment to equity of access and participation in knowledge production. In this spirit, we have recently joined the Diamond Discovery Hub (DDH), and our publisher, City Space Architecture, is mapped as part of the Registry of the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH), a free and comprehensive resource designed to foster collaborations within the Diamond Open Access landscape in the European Research Area, contributing to a stronger, more visible and sustainable ecosystem for non‑commercial open access publishing. City Space Architecture is also recognised as a research organisation and included in the Research Organization Registry (ROR).
If you value our mission to advance critical, interdisciplinary and truly public knowledge on public space, I kindly invite you to support our work. Even a small donation can help us maintain our diamond open access model and continue to offer an independent, accessible platform for scholars, practitioners and communities around the world.
